A few weeks ago, Bill Nye, the “Science Guy”, released a video on youtube that, at the writing of this post, had over 4 million views (see video below). He argues that teaching creation to kids is basically a form of child abuse. He says that teaching creation “it holds everybody back” because “evolution is the fundamental idea in all of life science”. He tells parents, “if you want to deny evolution and live in your world that is completely inconsistent with everything that we observe in the universe, that’s fine. But, don’t make your kids do it. Cause we need them…we need engineers that can build stuff, solve problems.” Then, after accusing creationist of child abuse he decides to become a prophet by stating, “In another couple centuries, that worldview (creation), I’m sure, will be, it just won’t exist. There’s no evidence for it.”
Some reading this might not see the importance of this debate. But let me tell you, it has grave consequences. Where do we get the idea that there is a right and wrong? Not from evolution. Where do we get the idea that life is valuable? Not evolution. Where do we get the idea that people are special? Not evolution.
See, evolution teaches that we are nothing more than random acts of chance. According to the theory, life is not valuable. We are nothing more than chemicals and matter. No purpose, except to die, and cease to exist. Those from an evolutionist philosophy cannot teach that murder is wrong, cause survival of the fittest is at the core of its foundation.
But, by teaching creation, that we came from a supreme being, God, we can know right from wrong. We can know we are made in His image and are special, not just advanced animals. We can value life, our own and that of others, cause God values life. He made it.
It is a myth. No, better said, a lie, that says that there is no evidence for creation. The “Science Guy” has lied to us trying to get us to buy into his belief, which is not science, rather humanism. Evidence for creation is massive, compelling, and not in contradiction to real science. To see this evidence, visit, http://www.answersingenesis.org and http://www.discovery.org.
I encourage you to see the videos below for a response to Bill Nye. The videos do a better job than I. This is a big deal. If our future generation grows up believing that they are nothing more than random chance and process, then we are in big trouble. Right and wrong, ethics, and morals will go out the window, and anarchy will take over. I think we are seeing this happening now.
I teach my kids creation. I believe it to be true. I believe evolution is a lie. My wife and I teach our kids that evolution is a lie. And I do not think it will keep any of my kids from becoming an engineer. I believe God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1). I believe that His creation was perfectly done. I believe that the evil, chaos, disasters, wars, etc we see today is the result of human sin (Genesis 3). I believe the only rescue available from all this is Jesus (Bible). And, not one of these beliefs contradicts science in any way. Actually, science matches right on with what we see in the Bible. It is evolution that has to invent ideas to make it work with what we see in the world and universe.
