This is a question that many in the evangelical church are afraid of; but it is one that should be answered. Sanctification is a work of the Holy Spirit, not through manipulative emotional hype, but through the truth of God’s word (John 17:17). Jesus prayed that His church would be sanctified by the truth. Never did He pray that we be filled with simply emotional joy. What should bring joy to the believer in Christ is the truth of God’s word. I love music as much as the next person. But, I do not follow Jesus because of it. I was born again by the word of truth (James 1:18).

Pretty cool. I’ve been thinking a lot about this lately. I’m a former worship leader who struggled with the “emotion driven” atmosphere. Thanks for the contribution here.
Thanks for the comment Kevin. Honestly, this has been a subject I have worked through over and over. But, when I look into God’s word, I see that sanctification by the Spirit only comes through His word. I do get emotional when I worship in song, but it is only because it reminds of the wonderful truths of God’s word. Anyone can jump around in a worship service, but it takes one being led by the Spirit of God to walk day to day in holiness. Thanks again for the comment.
